This project started with Witkamp wanting a deeper understanding of what manhood looks like, especially during the adolescent years. Throughout her research she collected diary entries from young men to gather a closer look into their inner thoughts and desires. Men experience an alternative way of intimacy. They feel close trough shared activity, not trough self disclosure. This could also be called; closeness in the doing.

The images have become a study of how men relate to each other, about what masculinity looks like. Can the term be defined? Is it possible to break through a certain toxicity that comes with being male? Witkamp hopes to show the male urge for closeness rather then toughness.
